What To Prepare For A New Hamster's Cage

So, you've decided to purchase one of those cute furry little creatures? Before you go ahead and buy one, you might want to go through this article first.

Make sure you have the following: Cage, water bottle, food bowl, paper based bedding (No sawdust or shavings such as Pine or Cedar- although many places do say this is fine, this is outdated information and this type of bedding is not safe and an cause respiratory problems.), Wooden toys such as bendy bridges etc, and a safe wheel- (No wire or mesh wheels as these are unsafe. Make sure it has solid base to avoid injury.)

Check that your cage is big enough-hamsters need space. Make sure the cage is minimum size of 360 square inches, But the bigger the cage the better to keep your hamster stimulated and happy.

Spread the bedding all over the floor, making is deep so the hamster can burrow in it.

Assemble all toys, the wheel etc.

Next fill up the water bottle and put it in the cage. Try to change the water at least every few days.

6 Put 1 tablespoon of food in the food bowl and place inside

7 Check for safety errors, i.e sharp corners on the edge of a toy etc.

8 Carefully introduce your new hamster to his new home.

Make sure to leave your new hamster alone for a few days before interacting with them.
